Aurora, part one

I wish I knew of anything to say.
It’s easier if soldiering were all
That causes lack of living, or a fall
From luck in an endeavor that a fray
Would pale in a comparison. Alas,
The unexpected death is hardest. Fear
The sudden pain in knowing any near
Are gone as suddenly, that any pass
Of luck or circumstance may any pain
Bring you as well as any other. Well,
I mean no disrespect to any hell
That soldiering may bring, but any gain
That’s won by sacrifice is still worthwhile.
But this will not but make the Devil smile.
